Dental Crowns

A crown may be recommended to restore the tooth; when a tooth is either cracked or broken, is heavily compromised by decay, has an old large filling or has had root canal treatment,
Sometimes called a ‘cap’, crowns are an excellent way to strengthen, protect the and improve the appearance of your natural tooth structure. This is done by placing the crown on the individual tooth like a thimble over your finger.

Depending on their purpose, crowns can be made from a variety of different materials including tooth coloured porcelain or precious metals such as gold. A highly aesthetic option is porcelain. This can be achieved in one visit using the latest equipment onsite with computerized dentistry or CEREC or over 2 appointments if made at a specialist dental laboratory.

Dental Bridges

A bridge is a viable option to fill a gap when one or more teeth are missing.
It involves placing a natural looking, artificial tooth into the space or gap, anchored with crowns on the existing teeth on either side of the gap.

Bridges can be used to improve the appearance of your smile as they are matched to the colour of your natural teeth, along with the desired shape and size. They are also suitable to replace partial dentures or improve the function of your teeth.

Veneers

Porcelain veneers or facings, as they are sometimes referred to as, are a simple option to correct imperfections such as chipped, cracked, discoloured and misaligned front teeth. Veneers are designed to cover the front side of the teeth, similar to a false finger nail and can help you achieve a natural, even and aesthetic appearance.

Veneers can be an alternative for those who want a beautiful smile, without going down the path of timely braces. In as little as just two visits, veneers can instantly create a natural looking smile.

Cerec- Porcelain Restorations

We are pleased to offer our patients Cerec restorations.  A superior method of creating precisely designed, colour matched and highly durable ceramic restorations, from simple fillings, onlays and full crowns all in one visit.

After examining the tooth, we will prepare it for the restoration, by removing the existing filling or decayed tooth. This is very similar to traditional treatment methods it will then be coated with a safe, tasteless powder.  The dentist will then use a state-of-the-art digital 3D camera to create an optical impression.

State-of-the-art CAD (Computer Aided Design) software allows the dentist to design every precise detail of you restoration with accuracy.  The software allows us to customize the shape of the restoration to exactly fit your specific clinical needs.  While you wait (watching TV, reading a book or magazine) the exact design specifications are sent to our on-site milling machine to create your restoration.  About 10-20 minutes later, your new restoration is then fitted, polished and bonded permanently. Your tooth is restored back to its natural form, function and beauty.

This appointment will take about 70 minutes to 90 minutes depending on what type of restoration you are having.

White Fillings

When teeth become compromised by a small amount of decay, or a small part has chipped away, it may require a filling to restore the tooth. If a filling is required, at Noosa Dental we only use tooth-coloured filling material. This is a composite resin and can be matched to the existing tooth colour.

Good oral hygiene and diet along with regular active maintenance visits will aid in composite fillings lasting for years.

Root Canal Therapy

Root canal treatment is necessary when the nerve in a tooth becomes damaged or infected. This can result in an abscess forming on the root of the tooth causing extreme pain and can only be resolved by treatment from a dental professional. Some of the causes of inflamed or infected nerves are; deep cavities, trauma, gum disease, cracked tooth, extreme wear and tear heavily filled or repeatedly worked tooth. Failure to perform this treatment usually results in the need to extract the tooth.  Firstly the infection is addressed, then the damaged nerve is removed and the canals are cleaned to remove any infection, finally the canals are filled and sealed. Finally the tooth generally requires a crown or onlay to properly seal the tooth and provide the most strength. This treatment is usually performed over a series of 2-3 appointments.

Implants

Dental implants are a more permanent solution for replacing missing teeth. They are a great alternative to dentures and provide the closest feeling to a natural tooth. Implants can be used to replace a missing tooth or many missing teeth, helping to enhance your smile, restore your ability to chew and help prevent bone loss.  Made of strong titanium, the implants are placed in your jaw. Once the implant has fused to the jawbone they can be used just like a normal tooth.

To be suitable for dental implants you need to:

  • Have good oral hygiene
  • Have adequate bone support. This will be tested prior to commencing treatment.
  • Meet general medical requirements

Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to come through and are also called ‘third molars’. Wisdom teeth generally push through the gums when people are in their late teens or early twenties. Most people will have four wisdom teeth however it is not unusual for people to have less more or even none at all. Not all wisdom teeth need to be removed however many people do have them removed due to impacted wisdom teeth, crowding, infection in gum adjacent to impacted wisdom teeth, and decay in teeth adjacent to the impacted teeth. Wisdom teeth can be removed in surgery or by and oral surgeon under a general anaesthetic. After taking an OPG x-ray the dentist will be able to assess which would be the best option for you.
